Leadership Next Gen Fellowship

In Partnership with the Coalition for Anti-Racism in Education (CARE)

The Commonwealth Seminar, in collaboration with the Coalition for Anti-Racism in Education (CARE), proudly runs the Leadership Next Gen Fellowship — an annual program designed to empower the next generation of changemakers.

This Spring fellowship is open to high school and college students and provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience through internships in legislative offices and community-based organizations across Massachusetts.

In addition to their placements, fellows participate in a series of intensive workshops and professional development trainings that prepare them for meaningful engagement in public service, advocacy, and leadership roles.

Through this program, students not only build essential skills and networks, but also gain a deeper understanding of how policy and community leadership can drive social change — especially in the fight against racism and inequity in education and beyond.

Annual Youth Leadership Conference

Empowering the Next Generation of Civic Leaders

Each year, the Commonwealth Seminar hosts its Youth Leadership Conference — a dynamic, day-long event designed to engage high school and college students in civic engagement, leadership, and careers in public service.

The conference brings together youth from across Massachusetts to learn directly from elected officials, grassroots organizers, policy experts, and community leaders. Through interactive panels, workshops, and networking opportunities, students explore how they can make a meaningful impact in their communities and pursue pathways in government, advocacy, and public service.

This annual event is organized by youth, for youth — led by Seminar alumni and NextGen Fellows who shape the conference’s vision, content, and execution. The result is a powerful and inspiring experience that centers youth voices, builds leadership skills, and fosters lasting connections.

Whether you're new to civic engagement or already leading in your community, the Youth Leadership Conference is a space to grow, be inspired, and take the next step toward creating change.
